Indian Princely States, Hyderabad Feudatories, INO Alamgir II (AH 1167-1173, 1755-1761 AD), Koilkonda Mint, Silver Rupee, 11.01 gms, Obv: Persian legend “sikka zad dar jahan ba fazle elahi, shah alam panah (Alamgir sani)”, Rev: Persian legend “maimanat julus” & “zarb Koilkonda” visible at the bottom, Unlisted in KM, very fine, extremely rare. Note: In the 1750s, the Nizam of Hyderabad’s house was embroiled in a power struggle between the sons of Asaf Jah’s sons. The first two were killed in quick succession and the third was a puppet ruler for the Peshwa Balaji Bajirao. All sorts of rulers tried to use the ensuing chaos to stake a claim at autonomy and had begun striking coins in their own names. A number of rare and lesser-known mints were established at this time including Charikonda, Amarchinta, Gurmatkal, Medak, Koilkonda, Arki and Jatprole, among other, which were run by minor local authorities. Better known mints include Qamarnagar and Dilshadabad. Many of these coins still remain unpublished.
