Guptas, Samudragupta (c. 335-380 AD), Gold Dinar, 7.68Grms, ‘Lyrist’ type, OBV: King seated on a high-backed throne, playing a veena (lute) with seven strings which is carrying on his lap, his left hand keeping the instrument in position and right hand manipulating strings of the instrument, king’s left leg hanging down while his right leg is folded on the conch and the toe of his right foot is touching the foot stool, Brahmi letter ’Si’ on footstool for siddham, around Brahmi legend ‘[Maharajadiraja sri Sa]mudraguptah’, REV: Goddess Lakshmi nimbate, seated left on a wicker stool, holding a diadem fillet in her right hand and a cornucopia in the left hand, tamgha on left field Brahmi legend ‘Samudraguptah’ in right margin. As per TOTGE only 98 coins approx, of the lyrist type are know out of which only 10 coins of variety B are known, The coin offered here is a variety B of the Lyrist Type of Samudragupta.
